A Month in Any Direction

This series of still life, landscape, snapshot and other photographic genres can be reconfigured in any sequence. The project is influenced by non-linear narrative devices found in "One Thousand and One Arabian Nights," in which the legendary Scheherazade relays binge-worthy tales to a sultan known for killing all of his previously chosen one-night stands. In Scheherrade's case, she spins captivating yarns long enough to bear a child, entertain love and secure herself social status. Viewed from this perspective, the weaving of a never-ending pastiche of various tropes, the telling and reception of stories within stories, functions less as entertainment and more like subversive political acts of survival. Selections from this series have been featured in 2020 by Visual AIDS in New York, NY; The Curated Fridge in Somerville, MA in 2023; Culture Lab and Plaxall Gallery in New York, NY in 2023.
