A Travel Log of Fireflies

These modular echo-like stanzas consider ways in which photographs point to things both inside and beyond their frames. As forms of performance and Life Art, they document the process of close observation of intimate details and social aspects of every day rituals. "Dust Bunnies" inventories what was found under the couch, as a moody weather-like process of entropy and accretion. "Sorted" shows an adolescent refuse worker napping inside his collection bag along a busy Buenos Aires street, nesting circumstance within the larger social context. "Tiers" shuffles together a trail of Brahmin-caste children ascending saffron and white striped steps after their morning prayers along the Ganges River, creating a visual sense of vertigo. "Multiplication," a panorama of an Easter holiday window in the red light district of Amsterdam, reveals stuffed pink bunnies sporting male genitalia that seem to burrow into tactile senses. In "Fall" the artist's body intermingles with the skewed statute limbs of a fallen French Canadian hero. Wave-like plateaus of information come in and out of focus as overview and close-up details are displayed simultaneously. This ongoing series was exhibited at Fading Ad gallery in Brooklyn, NY in 2004; Four Walls in San Diego, CA in 2005; with selections featured at Augusta Savage Gallery at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA in 2018.
